I Need Some Help!

I have been working on a book lately. It's called "No-nonsense Ultimate Guide to Improving Relationship With Your Teen," tentatively.

It will talk about the issues parents face in bringing up teen and how parents can use alternative methods to deal with the issues. I am basing this book on the experiences of friends, relatives and myself. I want to get some insights from other parents as well from all over the world so that the measures and issues are much more detailed.

I would love to hear from you regarding any issues or any alternative methods you use in terms of discipline etc. Most importantly, I am looking for insights on how you are trying to improve your relationship with your teens.

You can reach me with comments or you can write to me at aloeblissbeauty@gmail.com.

Thanks moms and pops for stopping by and lending me your 2 cents worth.

Child Discipline Do not Touch That Rod Unless Absolutely Necessary

Punishment is as necessary as love. However, if you go for the rod at every instant, it is going to backfire on you. Your child will no longer be afraid of the rod and no matter how much you hit them, they are not going to behave as you would like them to. I am not suggesting that you spare the rod completely. Instead, you should only use the rod as a last resort.

It is necessary to know that children are not able to distinguish between right and wrong, at least up to the age of 10. As such, if you take the rod at every instant you are going to discipline, the child is going to feel that you do not love him/her instead of learning that what he/she did was wrong.

The very first thing you must do when disciplining the child is to make the child understand why he/she should not be doing. You will need to repeat a few times before the message registers in the mind of the child for lifetime. This means that you need to be consistent in your message. Every time the child repeats the mistake, you need to correct it by showing and telling the right way of doing things or what he is doing wrong.

The next form of disciplining should be in the form of confiscation. You can take away a favorite toy or forfeit the cartoon time for instance. You must still follow with telling the child as to why you are doing so. This helps to register the message in the mind of the child.

If nothing else works, then comes the time for you to use the rod. However, always be sure to make up to your child once the discipline session is over. You need to tell the child that you are upset and you disapprove of the thing he/she did. You need to remove the feeling from the child that you punished him because you do not like him/her. This way, your child will learn that you love him/her as much as you did earlier and it is the behavior that caused you to discipline.

10 Tips To Prepare You For A Healthy Pregnancy by Christopher Gavigan

During the first few weeks of pregnancy a baby’s body undergoes rapid growth and each development relies on precise, successful development in the previous stage. Because so much is happening so quickly, these first weeks are a particularly vulnerable period. Since nearly half of all pregnancies are unintended, living an eco-conscious, healthy lifestyle may be the best thing you can do to prepare your body for having children, planned or not.

This goes for the gentlemen too - toxins are known to affect the health and mobility of sperm. To prevent birth defects or other unintended health impacts, get started now.

Here are 10 tips to prepare for your pregnancy:
1. Avoid produce with pesticides. According to the Environmental Working Group, you can lower your pesticide exposure by 90 per cent simply by avoiding the most contaminated conventionally grown produce: peaches, apples, sweet bell peppers, celery, nectarines, strawberries, cherries, lettuce, imported grapes, carrots, and pears. If you’re really craving one of these foods, opt for organic. Conventionally grown fruits and vegetables that have the lowest levels of pesticide residue include: onion, avocado, sweet corn, pineapple, mango, asparagus, sweet peas, kiwi, cabbage, eggplant, papaya, watermelon, broccoli, tomato, and sweet potato.

2. Feast on folic acid before conceiving and while pregnant. Sources include dried beans and peas, citrus fruit, spinach and broccoli. Adequate folic acid early in a baby's development helps prevent neurological defects, such as spina bifida. Note: too much folic acid may pose it's own risks, so talk with your doctor about how much you need.

3. Reduce consumption of alcohol and caffeine, and quit smoking. Women who smoke during pregnancy (or are exposed to secondhand smoke) are more likely to give birth to small babies with low birth weight. Alcohol and caffeine lower overall health and can negatively impact a fetus.

4. Ease up on animal fats. Animal products can contain synthetic hormones, antibiotics and organochlorine chemicals, such as dioxin, DDT and other pesticides, which concentrate in animal fat. The same chemicals that accumulate in animal fats are transferred to our own when we eat them. Then they linger there for years quietly causing damage. When you buy meat, poultry or dairy, look for low fat options (get the unsaturated fats your body needs from plant sources like walnuts, flax seeds, and avocadoes). Trim all fats and skins and broil meats and fish so that the fats drain away. Avoid frying, which will lock in the contaminants. You can also do your body a favor by reducing how much meat you eat. Making even one vegetarian meal a week can make a big difference.

5. Select safer seafood. Eating seafood is the primary way we are exposed to methylmercury, a potent neurotoxin. Fish can also be contaminated with PCBs, which are a probable carcinogen. Still, fish are an important source of good fats known as Omega-3 Fatty Acids. Eat seafood in moderation and choose types with lower levels of contamination like Herring, Mackerel, Anchovies, Clams, Wild Alaskan Salmon, Shrimp, Tilapia, and Black Sea Bass

6. Get smart about plastics. Some plastics cause dangerous pollution during manufacturing and some contain chemicals suspected of causing harm - especially to developing fetuses. Avoid those numbered 1, 3, 6, or 7 (PC). These resin codes are typically on the bottom of an item in a triangle of arrows. When using any plastic, be safer by not using in the microwave or with hot food (the heat promotes leaching). Discard or stop using for food and beverages when the product begins to have signs of wear and tear. Also, ban the can. Canned foods and beverages are lined with a plastic resin that contains bisphenol-A, a hormone-disrupting chemical. Many manufacturers are beginning to explore safer alternatives, but in the meantime you should choose foods that are fresh, dried or frozen or packaged in glass jars.

7. Wet your whistle with water. Americans drink an overwhelming amount of sodas, sports drinks, energy boosters, juices (that often contain little juice), and other bottled beverages. The first problem with this is that most of these drinks are loaded with sweeteners and artificial flavors and colors. The second is that they’re bottled in plastic, which can leach additional chemicals into the drink. Your body is roughly 70% water, so hydrate it with water! Skip the single-use bottled water which can be contaminated by the plastic bottle (it’s also less regulated than tap water.) Make an investment in a water filter and reusable stainless steel water bottles. They quickly pay for themselves.

8. Test for lead while planning your pregnancy. Lead is a potent neurotoxicant that is stored in the bones and can be passed to a developing baby through the placenta. Test your paint if your home was built before 1978. The US Environmental Protection Agency maintains a list of certified labs where you can send paint samples. Removal of lead paint must only be done by a professional and pregnant women should stay away from the area until it is thoroughly cleaned. Test your tap water for lead and talk to your doctor about having your blood tested for lead.

9. Use fewer personal care products. Many personal care products contain chemicals that disrupt hormones your baby will rely on for proper development. And others contain carcinogens and neurotoxicants, among other things. The best thing for you and baby is to reduce how much you use and to choose the safest products. Look for products with fewer ingredients – ideally those with the USDA Certified Organic Seal. Avoid products with Parabens, Phthalates (DEHP, BBP, DBP, DMP, DEP), DMDM Hydantoin, Fragrance, Triclosan, Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate, DEA (diethanolamine) and TEA (triethanolamine), Formaldehyde, PEGs (polyethylene glycol), and anything with "glycol" or "methyl."

Food Matters - Learn from the World's Leaders in Nutrition and Natural Healing

10. Clean without toxic chemicals. You don't need a chemical arsenal to keep your home clean. Basic ingredients like baking soda and vinegar can tackle most household chores. Or, you can look for natural products at the store (don't be fooled by marketing, though. Check the label for ingredients.) Avoid products that say poison, warning, or danger and products with unidentified "fragrance." You should also avoid the top toxics: nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs), triclosan, ammonia, chlorine bleach, DEA, TEA, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, and sulfuric acid.

How to deal with rebellious children

Kids nowadays are hard to handle. This is increasingly becoming the slogan of many moms in this era. It is disturbing yet we do not how to handle this issue! Well, we may have been some what a trouble kid ourselves. However, now that we are grown ups and see our kids behave in unruly manner, we do feel like rolling our sleeves and do something to get them straight!

In fact, you would have done somethings as well. You could have tried shouted at them, tried talking with them aimlessly, tried befriending their friends and even bribing them to keep you posted and some of you may even have resorted to caning. Caning is not a solution, let me remind you. So? What now? What can I do that will turn my child around and turn over a new leaf?

Well, in order for you to make any difference to your already rebellious child you need to start behaving like one. When you were a child, what mattered to you? What did you feel rebellious about? Whay did you feel so? Waht is happening in your house that you, as a child would not have accepted?

I mentioned a few things that you may have tried before and those few things have something in common; "tried." Well, trying is never good enough for your child. You have a precious little child and all you want to do is just try? No way! Explain!

Being a child means understanding what a child is thinking. Your child is not born rebellious. It is the circumstances and their daily interaction with you and others that make them so. It could be the problem at home. It could be the teacher at school. It could be the movie or song or practically anything. It could even be YOU!

Understanding the root problem is what you need to do. Do not try. Just do it. It will not be easy, let me warn you. However, there is a way out.

Stop saying "No." Stop rebutting everything your child says. It is usually the feeling that they are constraned that lead them to become rebellious. Positive talks have the power to stop rebels in its tracks.Start saying yes for a change. Start encouraging for a change.

Gradually you will see your child open up to you. Slowly you will see your child trusting you again.Eventually you will get your precious child back. God gave you this beautiful little thing for you to cherish and to bring them up to be capable and responsible beings. You can only do that through proper care and understanding.

Television violence and children

While it is good thing to get away and relax and mentioned in my previous post, it is also necessary to see what kind of activities our children engage themselves in. If we turn to the television to keep our children company while we relax, there are serious implications. Read on to find out more!

Television violence affects children, so how can we work to keep our kids safe? Where do you draw the line?

Today's television is more violent and explicit then the television of twenty or thirty years ago. At any time, a child can turn on the t.v. and witness violence, explicit language and scenes that are sometimes far more than suggestive. These shows are seen on cable, regular television, news and cartoons. Public television is one of the safe places a child can turn to and see positive educational programs.

So what has happened to television? To compete with increasing number of cable programs and decreased costs of subscribing to cable and renting movies, television programming has had to utilize more of what it feels adults want to see: violence, nudity and sexual situations. Ratings have been issued and program locks are offered with cable subscriptions. But is this enough to protect our children?

Researchers believe that television is contributing to the delinquency of today's American children. Children in the United States watch an average of 3 - 5 hours of television daily. It can be a powerful influence on children in shaping their behavior and development. Early days of watching preschool shows assisted children with learning, but shows they watch in primetime cable and on regular television can have a negative influence.

Studies have shown that too much television may cause children to become immune or numb to the horror of violence. After seeing characters kill and hurt, children may not be able to differentiate the real life violence of murder versus the onscreen make believe violence. Children may also interpret that violence is a way to solve problems, imitating what they see on shows. Children on the playground are quick to make believe they are their favorite superhero fighting the bad guys. Too often children get hurt or hurt others not realizing the severe consequences of what they see on television as it happens in real life.

Children who can identify with a specific character as a victim, often feel angry that someone like them has gotten hurt. Excessive viewing of television violence can lead all children to become more aggressive. The impact of television violence may not surface until children are in their teens or later, and studies show that irregardless of race, religion and socioeconomic development, all children are affected by this violence.

News channels can be more detrimental to children than other television shows. When children are able to realize that the news is about real people and events, the violence can be more frightening. Today's news can be accessed almost anywhere. It becomes hard to escape major events with the news crews covering them as they unfold with such depth that it causes adults to cringe. The effect on young children could be staggering.

How can we help children sort through the news and the violence? Once sure thing is to limit the time they watch television. Let them become absorbed in other activities such as reading, playing and being outside. Help them find a hobby and see what community events they can become involved with. When they do watch television, make sure you know what they are watching and if you feel something is not appropriate, don't let them watch or watch with them and make sure you take the time to answer their questions and explain what may upset them.

When your child does watch something that is violent and it has clearly upset them, it is important to help them through that. Make sure you have them realize that something that is real is permanent, while what happens to the actors of a show is not. Talking to your child is the key to resolving their fears and concerns.

We cannot control everything that our children see and are exposed to. If we start at home and work with our children to regulate the television, we are taking the first step in helping them. Being involved with our children at every age is vital to their development and maturity. Young children need as much guidance as older children, just with a different focus. Love and knowledge can take our children far.

Television used to open doors to our minds and it still can when viewed responsibly and sensibly. Don't eliminate all of television, just eliminate the violence and the explicit. Watch the television and watch your children. Together you will open all the possible doors.

Ways to relax, how a mommy can get away for a day

Ways to relax and tips on how a mommy can get away when life becomes to much to handle. Learn of ways to find this time when no sitter is in site.

When staying home seems mundane and boring, there’s no need to throw in the towel. When life seems dull and you can’t handle one more game of patty cake, it’s time for a mommy break. Mommy breaks are great because they allow you to get away and relax. They allow mom time to re-coop and re-evaluate the role of being a stay-at-home mom. And sometimes, they allow just enough breathing room to remind mom that she is still an individual and valuable part of the community.

The hardest part about taking mommy breaks is justifying the time. When there is so much going on and so many things that need to get done, it’s often hard to justify taking a time out to relax. But, without that time out, you will find yourself beaten, tired, and worn to the bones. So, the next time you begin to crab for no apparent reason, ask yourself, " When was the last time I had a mommy break?"

So how do you go about getting this much needed break when there is no sitter in site?

· Ask your hubby to watch the kids. You’d be surprised at how an hour long trip to the grocery store can actually be relaxing.

· Swap an hour or two with another stay-at-home mom, once a week.

· Join a church Bible study that offers free childcare.

· Join your local Mothers of Preschoolers Program (MOPS).

· Enroll your child in Tiny Tots.

· Enroll your child in a two-day preschool program.

MOPS is a program specifically designed for mothers of preschool aged children, and is often sponsored by a local church. They meet one day a week, every other week and you don’t have to belong to the church to join. The kids go off to their age appropriate classes while moms head off to a relaxing event full of speakers, crafts, food, and adult conversation.

Tiny Tots is usually sponsored by the local Park and Rec Center, and is offered one day a week. It’s a chance for you to relax, while introducing your children to other children. It’s like scheduling a play date that you don’t have to monitor.

Baby Sign Language in action

A video to support my earlier post on Baby Signs - A review

Baby Signs - A review

Saniyah started with her "words" recently and nowadays, I am able to understand and decipher almost everything she is trying to communicate. I did not realise that I was using sign language as well to communicate with her and she was doing the same with me till I came across this, while doing a random search in google. This is a book result from google on Sign language. It is called the Baby Signs, How to talk with your baby before your baby can talk.

I figure everyone of us has been using it for ages. Us and our ancestors included. It is just that only recently, have the pediatricians decided to put it in writing after various research phases. Its kind of cool actually. Something that has been in existence for God knows since when only start existing once someone decides to put it in writing. I am sure there are many other books written on this subject of Signing with babies.

Baby Signs talks about the develpomenal aspects of babies who use sgn language. Contrary to the belief that the baby who signs will take longer to speak, they actually have a easier time grasping the language and they tend to have higher IQ, according to the research. Now that is a sign of releif. Also, the babies who sign, tend to have a better grasp on the words required of feelings and they tend to be more expressive. I guess, I can read in between the lines and believe they will have a broder range of vocabulary than the baies who do not sign, or rater whose parents do no communicate using sign language.

Well, I believe that every parent, at one point ir the other do communicate using sign language. However, some may not use it extensively or do sign wthout being aware of it.

Baby Signs, is a good read and do give it a try.

Dirty Baby

I came across this video and it was so much fun. Well, the kind of thoughts that runs through the minds of our babies when they are feeling the urge to "go" is very well captured. I have not started potty training my 15 month old yet and I guess I should pay more attention to her thoughts when she is feeling the urge. Usually she goes, stans in a corner and twitches areound when she wants to poo-poo. After that she will come running to me and hugs my feet. If I ask her did you do ayyeyye.... she will also go ayyayyee... hehe... Enjoy the video...

What is the best diet for pregnant women?

What is the best diet for pregnant women?
By: Aliceshown

There are many myths surrounding the diet for pregnant mothers. We often hear the elders of the family advising young mothers to eat enough for two individuals. Today, we know that this is not true. In fact, unbridled eating during pregnancy can make you put on a lot of weight and can make your child unnecessarily overweight. What then could be the best diet for pregnant women?

The growing fetus derives all its nourishment from its mother through the umbilical cord. Therefore, while the mother does not have to eat enough food for two individuals, it is important that she take in enough nutrients for two individuals. If the mother suffers from nutrient deficiency, this will be passed on to the child. Early nutrient deficiency can lead to a number of developmental problems in young children.

The pregnancy diet must be rich in all the vital nutrients that the body needs. Doctors recommend the intake of six to seven servings of bread and grains, two to four servings of fruit, four to six servings of vegetables, two to four servings of dairy and approximately three servings of protein every day. It is always advisable to choose food that is rich in fiber. Excellent examples include whole-grain cereals, rice, fruits and fresh green veggies.

Calcium is vital to the growth of bones and teeth. Remember to take in at least four servings of calcium rich dairy products. This will ensure that you get approximately 1200 mg of calcium every day. The diet of pregnant women should be rich in iron.

Vitamin C helps strengthen the immune system of the mother and child. Important sources of vitamin C include citrus fruits, broccoli, cauliflower, papaya, green peppers and tomatoes. Vitamin A is equally important. Carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, turnip, apricots and water squash contain lots of vitamin A.

An expectant mother must always take all her prescribed prenatal vitamins. These are specially devised multivitamins that compensate for any nutrient imbalances or deficiencies in the mother's diet. Generally, these contain iron, minerals, vitamins, folic acid and calcium. The deficiency of folic acid can lead to serious birth defect in babies. Green leafy vegetables, nuts, citrus fruits and beans are rich in natural folic acid, vitamins and iron.

Just as there are things that must be included in the diet for pregnant women, there are certain items that must be avoided during pregnancy. These include alcohol, caffeine, surplus sugar, surplus fat and raw meat. It is advisable to avoid soft cheese, and to abstain from eating shark, swordfish and mackerel which high levels of mercury in them.

Most pregnant mothers feel nausea and a depressing lack of appetite during their first trimester. At this stage, they may eat small meals throughout the day.

Many women put on a lot of weight due to the high fat, salt and sugar content in their pregnancy diet. It is true that pregnant women often go through strong cravings and sharp hunger pangs. But if you desire to keep your weight under control and shed extra pounds quickly after delivery, then, it is important to eat foods low in calories and high in nutritive value.

First Aid Kit For Babies

First Aid Kit For Babies
By: C.L. Hendricks

A first aid kit for babies is something often overlooked in emergency and disaster survival preparedness. All of the prep lists advise that you include a first aid kit in your plans, however standard first aid kits rarely include supplies that babies require in an emergency situation. Pre-planning and preparing will ensure that your baby will have the emergency medical supplies should the need arise.

Standard first aid kits contain many items that can be used by people of all ages. All kits should have a thermometer, a pair of tweezers, Bandaids, gauze, surgical or medical tape, elastic bandages in multiple sizes, disposable one time use heat and cold packs, disposable medical gloves, hand sanitizer, surgical masks and small splints.

Most quality first aid kits also contain a number of over the counter medications. These include acetaminophen, ibuprofen, anti-diarrhea medicines, antihistamines and anti-vomiting preparations. However, babies are smaller and require specific OTC medicines that are prepared especially for them. Infant fever reducers and anti-diarrhea preparations are just a couple of the baby specific OTC medicines to include.

A large diaper bag can be used to create a first aid kit for babies. Not only will it hold a modified first aid kit, but it will hold all of the other items necessary for an emergency preparedness kit for your baby.

Diaper rash cream, infant sunscreen and travel size bottles of baby wash with a few baby size washcloths in a Ziploc bag will keep your baby comfortable during an emergency where bathing may be difficult. Teething gels and rings are also good to have on hand during especially during and emergency. Nose tissues and paper towels are also quite handy to keep in a first aid kit for babies.

Dehydration is a serious but preventable condition. By keeping water, formula and dry electrolyte packs in your first aid kit you can reduce the chance of dehydration. Placing bottled water in your child’s first aid kit will allow you to make safe replacement fluids or formula. By using a fluid replacement instead of plain water you can reduce the concern of dehydration. Water that is safe for drinking is difficult to find in an emergency situation.

During an emergency everyone’s stress levels will be high. Stress will also affect your baby. The baby that rarely cries may whimper or cry for no apparent reason. Infant stress may also cause gas or colic to develop. There are herbal preparations available for infants and toddlers. Catnip will relieve the pain of gas and colic while chamomile will help calm and soothe a cranky baby. Both of these preparations can be found in infant and toddler strengths. They are safe to use and do not require a doctor’s prescription. Keeping these in your baby’s first aid kit may help everyone relax during a difficult and stressful time.

Including a few days worth of disposable diapers, baby wipes and a few changes of clothing in this kit allows you to grab and go if needed. You will not need to stop and gather these items. Natural disasters are unpredictable and too often occur without warning.

Hypothermia is a condition that occurs when the body temperature drops and stays there. Footed blanket sleepers, hats, mittens, socks, long sleeve bottom snap t-shirts along with a few blankets into your baby’s first aid kit will keep your baby warm. Dressing your baby in layers will increase the baby’s ability to stay warm. Remember to include a hat along with spare clothes. This type of clothing is important even in temperate climates.

Sanitary facilities may not be available during an emergency or natural disaster. Keeping rolled plastic shopping bags, which are secured with a rubber band, will provide a sanitary way to dispose of used diapers. By placing each soiled diaper in a bag twisting and securing with the rubber band you can prevent contamination from the diaper. This practice will also reduce odor.

By planning ahead and updating your first aid kit for babies every three months, (babies grow quickly and you should change the clothing and OTC medications to fit your child’s age) you can eliminate many of the worries regarding natural disasters or emergency situations.

What To Do About Baby Skin Rashes

What To Do About Baby Skin Rashes
By: C.L. Hendricks

Knowing what to do about baby skin rashes is often a dilemma faced by first time parents. We are all know there are few things as soft and smooth as your baby’s skin, unfortunately, even perfect baby skin will occasionally develop minor skin irritations. These cause reddening, rash, swelling, and worry for new parents.

Rest assured, most of these skin conditions will go away on their own and are nothing to be worried about. On the other hand, there are skin rashes that require minor changes such as switching laundry detergent or fabric softener. Then there are a few rashes and skin problem that will require treatment.

Normal Baby Skin Conditions Not Requiring Treatment:

* Vernix - Newborns are born with skin discolorations and occasionally a few patches of oevernix”, a substance that protected their skin that has the feel of cream cheese. These skin discolorations disappear within a day or two after birth.
* Birthmarks, while not rashes, often not visible at birth may appear within a few days.
* Hormonal bumps - Most babies will develop small pin prick red bumps caused by the mother’s hormones passed via the umbilical cord prior to birth. These bumps require no intervention and will go away on their own.
* Millia - Occasionally small white bumps will appear on the newborns nose and cheeks and are the result of clogged pores. It is not necessary to cleanse the area more or to try to squeeze them or apply any creams as these too will go away on their own.

Treatable Baby Skin Rashes:

* Diaper rash - something that all parents will experience at least a few times before their child no longer wears diapers.
* Heat rash is a common problem with newborns and infants who are born in late spring and summer.
* Eczema is a more serious rash and should be assessed by a physician.

Diaper Rash

Diaper rash is caused by a number of different agents; allergic reactions to chemicals in disposable diapers, cleansing cloths, the detergent or fabric softener that cloth diapers are washed in; leaving soiled diapers on too long especially during warm weather; infection from a bacteria or yeast; from wearing diapers that are put on too tight restricting air flow.

Fevers and teething sometimes causes mild diaper rash. If your child is old enough to be cutting teeth check their gums for redness and slightly swollen areas. If your child feels hot or is cranky take their temperature. If the child has a fever, keep a close eye on it and call your physician if the fever persists.

One of the best things for diaper rash is exposure to the air. Whenever possible allow your child to have a bare backside. The air coupled with the lack of moisture allows the skin to repair any minor damage and will inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungus such as yeast. At the first signs of any rash apply Zinc Oxide. It soothes irritated skin while forming a waterproof barrier. A thin application works best. Keep in mind that Zinc Oxide is thick and allowing a small amount to warm in the palm of your hand will allow you to apply a thin even layer on the rash.

If the rash persists and is not getting better try changing your cleansing cloths. Some of the baby wipes have fragrances and other chemicals that may be irritating to your baby’s skin. If that doesn’t work you can try one of the following:

* if you’re using disposables try cloth diapers for a few days;
* if you’re using cloth diapers change the detergent they are washed in;
* if you’re washing your own diapers allowing them to sit in a white vinegar and water solution prior to the final rinse will also destroy any lingering bacteria or fungus;
* allowing cloth diapers to dry in the sun on a line also destroys any bacteria or fungus that may be hiding in the fabric;
* if you’re using cloth diapers do NOT use fabric softener these products are not needed.

Heat Rash

Newborns and young infants usually need the security of a blanket or sheet wrapped around them. While this is soothing it can lead to heat rash. 'Using cornstarch based baby powder helps as does a short bath in cornstarch water. Remember that powders can become airborne so protect those little lungs by placing the powder in your hand in small amounts to apply.

Eczema

The big difference between this rash and normal childhood rashes is the raised, angry red splotches it causes. Baby eczema can be anywhere and is not limited to the nose like Millia, or to the diaper area as with diaper rash or to the neck, shoulders and upper back like heat rash. It will occasionally feel warm to the touch and the infant can be cranky. Eczema itches and occasionally is painful. Listen to your baby as those cries can tell you a lot. Your doctor will be able to help you determine how to best treat your baby’s eczema.

Having the products on hand to treat normal baby skin rashes before your infant is born will save you a lot of time and heartache. There is nothing more frustrating than an infant who’s uncomfortable. They cannot tell you what is wrong and parents can become overwhelmed when nothing they do comforts their child.
