Baby Signs - A review

Saniyah started with her "words" recently and nowadays, I am able to understand and decipher almost everything she is trying to communicate. I did not realise that I was using sign language as well to communicate with her and she was doing the same with me till I came across this, while doing a random search in google. This is a book result from google on Sign language. It is called the Baby Signs, How to talk with your baby before your baby can talk.

I figure everyone of us has been using it for ages. Us and our ancestors included. It is just that only recently, have the pediatricians decided to put it in writing after various research phases. Its kind of cool actually. Something that has been in existence for God knows since when only start existing once someone decides to put it in writing. I am sure there are many other books written on this subject of Signing with babies.

Baby Signs talks about the develpomenal aspects of babies who use sgn language. Contrary to the belief that the baby who signs will take longer to speak, they actually have a easier time grasping the language and they tend to have higher IQ, according to the research. Now that is a sign of releif. Also, the babies who sign, tend to have a better grasp on the words required of feelings and they tend to be more expressive. I guess, I can read in between the lines and believe they will have a broder range of vocabulary than the baies who do not sign, or rater whose parents do no communicate using sign language.

Well, I believe that every parent, at one point ir the other do communicate using sign language. However, some may not use it extensively or do sign wthout being aware of it.

Baby Signs, is a good read and do give it a try.
